About

Made slowly,
by hand, in small batches.

PurplePants is a one-person ceramics creator. Every bowl, vase and mug is wheel-thrown, trimmed, glazed and fired by hand, no two quite alike.

Madison

Ribbed Tumbler — Waved Oceanic

Madison was first introduced to hand-building and the art of pottery at school, where she quickly discovered a passion for working with clay. What began as a classroom project soon became a creative outlet and a lasting interest. Since then, she has developed her skills on the potter's wheel, spending countless hours refining her technique and experimenting with new forms, glazes, and firing methods. Each new piece reflects her growing confidence as a ceramic artist and her enjoyment of the creative process.

Studio

Madison began her pottery journey at school but now creates most of her work at Greenwich House Pottery. Working in a professional studio has allowed her to expand her skills while learning from experienced instructors and fellow ceramic artists. The collaborative environment encourages experimentation and continual growth, giving her the opportunity to explore new techniques, challenge herself with more ambitious projects, and gain confidence with every piece she creates.

Artworks

Indigo Bottle Vase

Madison's work is inspired by the beauty of simple, functional forms and the belief that everyday objects can also be works of art. She enjoys creating pieces that are both practical and thoughtfully designed, with clean lines, balanced proportions, and subtle details that invite people to pick them up and use them.

As her experience has grown, so too has her willingness to experiment. She is increasingly exploring larger and more complex forms, combining traditional wheel-thrown techniques with hand-built elements to create pieces that are both functional and expressive. Surface texture, carefully chosen glazes, and the natural character of the clay all play an important role in her work, with each firing producing unique and often unexpected results.

Tuxedo Sam

Rather than aiming for perfect uniformity, Madison embraces the individuality of handmade ceramics. Every piece carries its own subtle variations in shape, texture, and finish, reflecting the process of its creation and making each work truly one of a kind. As she continues to develop as a ceramic artist, she hopes to create work that is not only beautiful to look at, but also meaningful to live with and use every day.
